OneSearch / Catalogue Search

OneSearch, the library's main search engine can be accessed from the front page of the library website.  As shown in the image below, there are a few different filters that can be selected before you perform your first search:

CMTN OneSearch

The filters that are helpful for searching books and audiovisual materials are [Full text (online or print)] and [Catalogue only]

  • [Catalogue only] will *mostly* limit your search results to only materials that are physically owned by one of our campus libraries.  This is a great filter to use if you only want to find books in print (no electronic documents).
  • [Full text (online or print)] is a broader search and will return documents that are available to CMTN students in full-text... both physical copies and electronic copies.

Videos / audiovisual materials

Currently the best way to search for audiovisual material in the library's collection is to use an advanced search in our classic catalogue.  The steps are outlined below:

  1. Follow this link to load the advanced search page in the classic catalogue.
  2. Scan down the page until you see [format:].  Click the drop down menu next to it.
  3. Select the type of material you'd like to search for (select [visual materials] to search for videos)
  4. Type your keyword(s) into the [words or phrase] or [title] fields at the top of the page.
  5. Click [search] to execute your search.

eBooks

Follow this link for a list of eBook databases our library has access to.

eBooks can also be easily searched up using OneSearch:

  • Before performing your search check off [Full text (online)]
  • After searching you can limit your results to eBooks only.  Find the drop-down menu called [Source type] (just below the search bar at the top of the page).  Select it to open a list of different types of documents found in the search results.  If [eBooks] is not visible on the list click the blue [+more] link.  Select [eBooks] and click the [Apply] button. (See picture below)

Basic and Advanced Searching

Below are two videos that explore basic and advanced searching in OneSearch / EBSCO.

Shelf Browse

CMTN libraries use the Library of Congress classification system which means that all documents of a similar subject matter are put on the shelves together.   Browsing the "stacks" in one of our libraries is an often an effective way to  find numerous sources on the same subject.   Below is a short video exploring how call numbers work, or if you prefer a PDF outlining some of the same concepts.

**Most English resources in the library are classified under the "P" section which is Language & Literature.  Look for the P's in our library and see what you find!

Interlibrary Loans

B.C's libraries are great at sharing resources, and CMTN library is no different.  If there are books, articles, or audiovisual materials you need to support your academic work that aren't available to us locally, we can borrow these materials from libraries across the province.  [Ask a librarian] or fill out this online form to make your request!
